Book Review in "SWS Rundschau"

A book review of "Migration and Health in Nowhereland – Accesss of Undocumented Migrants to Work and Health Care in Europe" has been published in the new edition of "SWS Rundschau" (1/2013), an Austrain social science journal.

In her review, Siegrid Kroysmayr emphasizes the minimum rights analysis provided by author Carin Björngren Cuadra of Malmö University. The Swedish researcher highlighted the status of European health care in the EU Member States and classified countries in three categories. Austria, by the way, failed to meet minimum standards.

Informal Sector May Have Promoted Irregular Migration

(2012-02-20) "The existence and rise of the informal sector economy in the EU may in fact have promoted irregular migration", writes Gudrun Biffl in her new book "Migration and Health in Nowhereland - Access of Undocumented Migrants to Work and Health Care in Europe" (Eds.: G. Biffl, F. Altenburg).

According to Biffl, the informal sector economy was as high as 40% of GDP in Latvia, closely followed by other new EU Member States, like Bulgaria and Romania, with the Southern European countries in the middle rage, with 20% to 25% of GDP produced in this economic sector.

Countries like Austria, Switzerland and the UK came in at the lower end of the EU spectrum, with 8% to 10% of GDP.

The book has appeared as a high-quality paperback in English. Coloured cover, b/w core on premium book printing paper, 215 pages. Size: 16 x 23.5 cm. Printed at a renowned quality printing house in Austria. The book is immediately available for 59 Euros. Publisher: omninum.
